Yau Nim Chi (Nancy Sit) is the head of the household in the Gam family.  She takes care of everything in the family from the small pestering of her daughter-in-law and her daughter to helping them getting out with larger troubles.  She also loves the people in her household very much.  Nim Chi is also the owner of the town's "five-star" restaurant, Dung Mat Yuan.  Nim Chi is very well-respected in her home as well as in her town.

But before she becomes Yau Nim Chi, she was known as Choi Fung Wong, a well-known thief.  After a while, she wanted to get out and just have a normal life.  Her lover wanted to go  on one last mission but got caught.  Having to wait for so long, she went and found love in another man.

Gam Nin (Frankie Lam) is the oldest brother in three triplets in the Gam family.  Because he and his two other siblings are triplets, when one thing happens to one person, it have a high chance of happening to another one in the triplets also.  Gam Nin is a high court official in Beijing but after he angered the princess, he got punished and became a lowly official in his home town.  But he is happy to be home.

Gam Nin have a smart and straigh-forward personality.  He also knows to speak his mind.  Along with his friend, Sek Biu, Gam Nin sets out to solve many interesting cases in this town.

Princess Sam Tin (Bernice Liu) is the beloved (and spoiled) daughter of the Emperor at the time.  She first met Gam Nin when she ran away from home disguised as a man with her servant, Ah Sau.  She got into trouble because the people thought that she stole money from an old man and Gam Nin helped her get out by catching the real thief.  Later when Gam Nin went to take a test because the princess wants a husband, he wrote a poem scolding the princess of how she have to have every town build her a lotus flower pool.  Out of anger, Sam Tin reduced his rank to a lowly official in his hometown.

Sam Tin is a spoiled girl since she was little.  She have never endured many hardships throughout her life.  When one thing that makes her angry, she just runs away from home.

When Sam Tin is forced to marry, she ran away from the palace and went to Chi Lik Gung Jan where she was forced to do public work by Gam Nin because she destroys the princess' statue because it was so ugly.  Later, she met Gam Nin's mother, Yau Nim Chi, who mistakens her for Gam Nin's savior's daughter in the past.  The daughter was Gung Yang Sou.  And so, our spoiled Sam Tin then disguises as Gung Yan Sou to be able to stay at the Gam family manor.

Gam Yuet (Michael Tse) is the second in rank of the three triplets.  He has more attention than the other siblings in the family because once, Nim Chi accidentally left and found him one year later.  He was a little shaky from then on so Nim Chi had to buy him things to ease his mind when things get tough.

He is also a very weak and sick person.  He got sick all the time.  One time he got so sick that Sek Mei had to marry into the house of Gam so that he can be healthy again.  He is also very lazy, not wanting to do anything.  Before he marry Sek Mei, he also have a wife, she is Lam Yuk Lo.  He is very obedient to her.

But one good thing that he have is loving his wives.  When Sek Mei was framed for adultery with another man, he stand by her and believed that she is innocent.

Lam Yuk Lo (Bondy Chiu) is the first wife of Gam Yuet.  A very loyal wife to her husband.  But she always want to be on top of others and always wants try and find out their secrets.  She and her sister-in-law are constantly fighting over every little bitty thing.  She really has nothing to do around the house but just playing "mac duoc" (sorry I don't know the Chinese term for the game) with other woman in the house.

Yau Nim Fu (Louis Yuen) has to be the most despicable person in the Gam family.  When he did something wrong and is scared of getting caught, he just ran away and just let everyone to fend for themselves.  He would even trick his wife into giving him her money so that he can run away and leave her at home with the others. 

He is always proud of his work and likes to hide secrets.  Nim Fu is the noodle-maker of Dung Mat Yuan.  His noodle-making skills are great and every likes his noodle.  But he always hide the way he make the noodles, never showing anyone how he does it.  He never wants someone to beat him at making the noodles.

Nim Fu also have an enemy and he is Sek Mi's father Sek Dai Chuen.  When Nim Fu was younger, he had caused Sek Dai Chuen to marry his "less beautiful" wife, not the one that he think he have chosen.

Sek Mei (Cutie Mui) is the eldest daughter of Sek Dai Chuen.  She always wants to take care of her family because her father is way into gambling.  After a little incident where she thought that Gam Yuet had sucked the poison from the snake out of her (Gam Yuet really didn't) and wanted to marry the person (she doesn't know that the person was Gam Yuet).  Later he got married into the Gam family and found her "savior".

Sek Mei just wants her husband to get out of his lazy trance and become somebody.  She doesn't want her husband just to lay around the house doing nothing.  She also joins the women in the household with the "mac duoc" games.  The fighting storms between her and Lam Yuk Lo also happen frequently.

Sek Biu (Timmy Hung) is the second sibling in the Sek household.  He was friends with Gam Nin since he was younger.  He became Sek Bou Dau, working for Gam Nin in the town court.  Sek Biu also have great martial arts skills and with Gam Nin's brain, have solved many of the crazy cases in the town.

Ah Biu fell in love with a maid of the Gam family household.  But unfortunately, she is the maid of Lam Yuk Lo.  Adding to that is the unlucky thing that his mother doesn't like Yuk Lo nor her maid.  Chan Giu (Sek Biu's mother) have had some unfortunately incidents with the girl that Ah Biu loves.  So how is he and his lover will be able to convince his mother to let them marry?

Sek Tai (Sherming Yiu) is the youngest daughter in the Sek family.  In admiring her brother's martial arts skills, Ah Tai always want to work at the "town court".  Sek Tai works at her family shop chopping out meat for people.

Ah Tai fell in love with Gam Nin but Gam Nin doesn't know it.  After a while, Gam Nin found out and had also develop some feelings for her and then the two went out.  Later on, after finding out that there's a lot different personalities the two have, Gam Nin and Ah Tai broken up.

Gam Yat (Joyce Chan) is the youngest sibling of the three triplets in the family.  She is constantly fighting with her sister-in-law, Yuk Lo.

The poorest person in the town, Gou Yi Hong wanted to marry her.  But she is very choosy in choosing a suitor and hated him so much because he was poor and doesn't really fall into the looks department either.  But after many incidents where Yi Hong helps her out, she develop some feelings for him.  When Ah Yat found out that Yi Hong have passed the exam and he will become a "trang su", she asked to marry him.

Gou Yi Hong (Dang Siu Juen) is the poorest person in Chi Lik Gung Jan.  But he always want to do better and become a "trang su".  He sells his paintings for a living in the town.

Yi Hong fell in love with Gam Yat after she had smiled at him three times (but really, she was just laughing at him).  He went and ask her to marry him.  But she refuses him, slapped him a few times, and pushed him into a river.  After that, Yi Hong concentrated on studying so he can pass the imperial exam.

Wan Ying Gei (Lam Yi Kei) is the loving wife of Yau Nim Fu.  She would do anything for her husband, but in turn, her husband is a coward and only wants to help himself.  She is simple-minded but she is also smart sometimes.

Ah Sau (Harwick Lau) is the servant of Princess Sam Tin.  Ah Sau is supposedly a "thai giam".  But only Sam Tin knows that.  He is very nice to other people and is a very faithful servant to the princess.
